05/28/2026 Ojibwe Language Teacher Full-Time- 2026-27 school year 2 Positions Available The Ojibwe Language Teacher will pilot the Ojibwe I course while developing the Ojibwe II curriculum.
Duties:
- Deliver high-quality Ojibwe language instruction by integrating comprehensive literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) into lesson plans that foster a deep appreciation for Ojibwe language, culture, history, and sovereignty
- Create a classroom environment that fosters curiosity, respect, and an inclusive space for students.
- Apply developmentally appropriate, Ojibwe-centered, and culturally grounded instructional practices to support student learning
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse linguistic, cultural, and academic needs of students
- Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance student engagement and learning
- Collaborate with other Ojibwe Language teachers, district staff, and community partners
- Design and develop a comprehensive Ojibwe Level II course, including a scope and sequence and formative and summative assessments to track student progress
- Travel between multiple school sites to deliver instruction
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice to strengthen instruction and support continuous program improvement
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current teaching license in American Indian Language, History, and Culture and/or holds an Eminence Credential for teaching Ojibwe language and culture; or is willing to work towards licensure. (Anoka-Hennepin will make every effort to hire teachers with full standard licenses in the assigned subject and grade level.)
- Proficient in Ojibwe Language
- Knowledge of history, culture, and lifeways of the tribes in Minnesota
- Experience teaching Ojibwe (preferred secondary setting) and/or have relevant post-secondary education and background knowledge
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors or 2-year degree in Ojibwe, Native American Studies, Education, or related field
- Two years of classroom instruction experience
- Two years of curriculum development experience
- Experience teaching within a Tribal community
- Experience teaching in a public school
- Passionate advocate for Indigenous language preservation and cultural revitalization.
Start Date:
8/31/26. This position may be filled 7 days after the initial posting date by an appropriately licensed candidate (PELSB Tier 3 or Tier 4 license); or by a candidate eligible for PELSB Tier 1 or Tier 2 license, or OFP (Out of Field Permission) after a 15-day posting period.Rate of Pay:
$53,529 to $106,751. Rate is based on full-time equivalency and verified placement on the salary schedule, with 1.0 FTE being full time. View additional terms and benefits here.
