Adjunct Instructor for Spanish Language

Part Time Position Summary:
The Adjunct Instructor will work in the Department of Foreign Language in the College of Arts and Sciences instructing Elementary Spanish I and II (course numbers SPAN 101 and
SPAN 102
), and/or Intermediate Spanish I and II (course numbers SPAN 201 and
SPAN 202
) as part of the curriculum offering. These courses emphasize introduction to the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, aural comprehension, and culture in a contextualized format. Grammatical concepts include the usage of present tense of regular, irregular and stem-changing verbs, present progressive tense, articles, concepts of noun/adjective agreement, prepositions, preterit and imperfect tenses of regular, irregular and stem-changing verbs, reflexive verbs, direct and indirect object pronouns, an introduction to commands, and the subjunctive mood. Vocabulary is presented in thematic units. At the Intermediate level, reading of selected literary texts is introduced. Spanish 202 incorporates brief readings and discussions based on literary works and cultural and historical information about the Hispanic community. All faculty at Campbell University are expected to be very responsive to student needs and questions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement curriculum, inclusive of learning objectives Develop and manage course materials from learning objectives and selected textbook provided by the department chair Select and administer tests, assignments and other exercises that permit measurement of performance relative to the course learning objectives Post grades on the Blackboard Grade Center and well as Campbell's Self-Service portal Maintain timely communications with students and staff at all times Interact with students in a positive manner, listen effectively, field questions pertaining to subject matter Assess participation and performance of students within the classroom Evaluate student work on out of class assignments Administer exams according to university guidelines Complete student record keeping in a timely and accurate manner Participate in departmental, faculty and staff meetings as requested Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX and FERPA guidelines Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree required, with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Spanish language Master's degree in Spanish, desired Certified or have verifiable education, experience and expertise in Spanish language and culture Experience working in higher education, or instructing younger adults desired Demonstrated abilities for working in an academic setting Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Blackboard computer programs

Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, university officials and the public Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people Exercise independent judgement as necessary The position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University
