A high level of communication fluency, real-world learning experiences; accelerated content, social-emotional learning, and intellectual engagement are at the core of the curricular program. The ideal teacher for this position is passionate about working with gifted children, committed to innovative pedagogy, and demonstrates a personal commitment to life-long learning. It is recommended that the candidate have experience developing Spanish curricula, command of the components of foreign language instruction, and the ability to inspire a range of students to reach their potential. Scholars Academy seeks an individual who loves children, models professional ethics, and understands the rewards and challenges of teaching gifted children.
General Responsibilities:
Develop challenging, differentiated curricula that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving Understand the social and emotional needs of gifted middle school students, integrating executive functioning skill instruction into classroom lessons Collaborate and communicate effectively and happily with colleagues and with parents Model flexibility and a willingness to take risks Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth Demonstrate interest and ability to contribute beyond the classroom (to the school, the community, and the field) Lead by example in your commitment to Scholar's Academy mission, vision, and values Teach expertly your course of study with the highest standards for each student Convey enthusiasm for content and intellectual inquiry
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in related field Successful teaching experience in a middle school classroom or content area related field Demonstrated mastery in area of study and ability to teach within and across academic disciplines Excellent communication skills Be fully licensed or willing to obtain North Carolina teacher licensure Has strong classroom management and organization skills
Desired Requirements:
Hold an advanced degree in teaching area Two or more years of successful teaching experience Experience teaching and/or working with gifted students Are independent, reflective, flexible, and adaptable Work comfortably with technology Has a certification in teaching gifted students
