Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking an engaging, student-centered Upper School Spanish Teacher to teach introductory and foundational Spanish courses. The ideal candidate fosters confidence and curiosity in language learners through interactive instruction, relationship-building, and a supportive classroom environment. This teacher will help students develop practical communication skills while building cultural awareness and enthusiasm for language learning. The successful candidate values collaboration, embraces innovation in instruction, and actively contributes to the life of the School community. Essential Functions Design and implement engaging Spanish instruction for Upper School students in introductory and foundational Spanish courses Develop students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through immersive and communicative instructional practices Foster appreciation and understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures and global perspectives Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and varying levels of language proficiency Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, curiosity, and confidence in language learning Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary and cross-curricular learning opportunities Use instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student engagement and learning Communicate proactively and professionally with parents regarding student progress and concerns as needed Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records and complete report cards/comments in a timely manner Develop and maintain course resources and materials through the School's learning management and communication platforms Serve as a student advisor, as assigned Fulfill supervisory responsibilities and other faculty duties, as assigned Attend and participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and community activities, including some evenings and weekends Perform other duties appropriate to employment as assigned by the Division Head or Head of School. Comply with all School policies, procedures, and professional expectations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or relevant field, Master's degree preferred 3+ years of experience teaching at the upper school level Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish Strong classroom management, instructional, and communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues Independent school experience preferred Professional Expectations Employees are expected to contribute positively to the Davidson Day community through professionalism, collaboration, accountability, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous growth.
