Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Upper School Spanish Teacher to teach advanced Spanish courses, including upper-level language and culture classes. The ideal candidate is passionate about language instruction, cultural fluency, and helping students achieve advanced proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. This educator should be capable of challenging high-achieving students while fostering meaningful engagement with Hispanic and Latin American cultures, literature, and current events. Essential Functions Design and implement engaging Spanish instruction for Upper School students in advanced Spanish courses, including honors and/or AP-level offerings Develop students' advanced reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through immersive and communicative instructional practices Foster appreciation and understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures, literature, history, and current global perspectives Challenge students through rigorous coursework, authentic language experiences, and meaningful classroom discussion Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and varying levels of proficiency Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and active participation Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary and cross-curricular learning opportunities Use instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student engagement and learning Communicate proactively and professionally with parents regarding student progress and concerns as needed Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records and complete report cards/comments in a timely manner Develop and maintain course resources and materials through the School's learning management and communication platforms Serve as a student advisor, as assigned Fulfill supervisory responsibilities and other faculty duties, as assigned Attend and participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and community activities Perform other duties appropriate to employment as assigned by the Division Head or Head of School Comply with all School policies, procedures, and professional expectations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or relevant field, Master's degree preferred Advanced fluency in verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish 3+ years of experience teaching at the upper school level Experience teaching advanced secondary Spanish courses Experience with proficiency-based instruction and authentic assessment practices preferred Strong classroom management, instructional, and communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues Independent school experience preferred Professional Expectations Employees are expected to contribute positively to the Davidson Day community through professionalism, collaboration, accountability, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous growth.
