Aug 1, 2026 Job Description Position Overview The High School Spanish Teacher will provide rigorous instruction in Spanish language and culture to high school students, focusing on communication, literacy, and intercultural competence aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for World Languages. The teacher will split their assignment between Northampton County Early College and Northampton County High School, serving each campus one semester per year. Position Details

Salary:
Based on the North Carolina State Teacher Salary Schedule plus applicable local supplement, commensurate with licensure status and experience. Licensure and Qualifications Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator License in Spanish (K-12 or 9-12) issued by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Spanish, Spanish Education, or a closely related field that meets NC licensure requirements. Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish at an advanced level in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Strong understanding of current world language instructional practices, including proficiency-based instruction, target-language use, and communicative teaching strategies. Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills; ability to work effectively with diverse high school student populations. Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship is strongly preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Responsibilities Plan, deliver, and assess engaging Spanish instruction aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study for World Languages and district curriculum. Use the target language (Spanish) as the primary language of instruction at appropriate proficiency levels, incorporating speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities. Develop lessons that build students' proficiency across all modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, presentational) and emphasize real-world use of Spanish. Integrate cultural content from a variety of Spanish-speaking countries to promote intercultural understanding and global awareness. Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations and supports to meet the diverse needs of students, including English learners and students with disabilities. Collaboration and School Involvement Coordinate schedules, grading timelines, and communication with both Northampton County Early College and Northampton County High School to ensure smooth transitions between semesters. Collaborate with counselors and administrators to support student placement, scheduling, and successful progression through Spanish course sequences. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and strategies for supporting student learning. Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and school-wide initiatives at both school sites as directed. Assessment, Data, and Professional Responsibilities Develop and administer formative and summative assessments that measure language proficiency and course objectives. Use student data to adjust instruction, provide remediation or enrichment, and support improved student outcomes. Maintain accurate and timely records of grades, attendance, lesson plans, and any required district or state reports. Participate in required professional development, including district offerings and world language-specific training as assigned. Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, and adhere to Northampton County Schools policies and procedures. Working Conditions Work is performed in classroom settings at both Northampton County Early College and Northampton County High School.
