Qualifications/Requirements:
Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.
Goal:
To motivate each pupil to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to interpret to pupils the culture of the countries where foreign language is spoken; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in foreign language communication.
Duties:
Teach skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction including aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing, to secondary students, using course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy Provide learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills, using tape recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate Provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil Instruct pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction. Make minor adjustments and request repairs as required Develop pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where the studied language is spoken Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment Evaluate each pupil's progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the foreign language in relationship to the level being taught Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies Maintain required inventory record Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities, such as foreign language workshops Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects Other duties as assigned
