00 per hour About PlayThrive PlayThrive School for Mandarin Whole Child Education is a Mandarin immersion afterschool program located in Redwood City, California. We provide a joyful, hands-on, and student-centered learning environment where children learn Mandarin through cultural activities, thematic projects, enrichment experiences, and exploratory play. Through ten years of continuous growth, collaboration, and innovation, PlayThrive has become increasingly popular among students and deeply trusted by families. As enrollment continues to grow, we are looking for more outstanding teachers to join our team. We hope to find creative, experienced, and growth-minded educators who are passionate about children's development and Mandarin education. In this role, you will guide students to learn Mandarin through hands-on learning, thematic exploration, and diverse enrichment activities. You will also help nurture a warm and positive learning community, support students as they ask questions, think critically, listen, and explore, and help them improve their Mandarin skills, expand their knowledge, build learning habits, and develop as whole children. Position Overview The Mandarin Immersion Teacher will teach primary school students from Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade in an afterschool setting. The teacher will support students' Mandarin language development, social-emotional growth, and whole-child learning through hands-on activities, Project-Based Learning units, enrichment experiences, and meaningful daily routines. This role is ideal for an educator with experience in Mandarin teaching, early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field. Key Responsibilities Create a joyful, positive, and inclusive Mandarin learning community. Teach Mandarin to TK-5th grade students in an afterschool setting, with the school day extending to 6:10 PM. Design and teach engaging Project-Based Learning units. Use PlayThrive's student-centered Mandarin curriculum and develop appropriate scaffolding, activities, and assessments to meet students' needs. Support students' intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and language development. Help students progress toward Hanban YCT language goals. Plan and facilitate hands-on lessons, enrichment activities, and meaningful classroom routines. Maintain safe, organized, functional, and developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environments. Understand each child's strengths and growth areas, and create plans to support their development. Co-author and implement behavior support plans when needed. Maintain records of coursework, instructional improvements, student progress, and assessment data. Proactively identify ways to improve class structure, classroom environment, and curriculum. Communicate program information and updates to parents in person and by email as needed. Contribute to weekly newsletters. Participate in professional development activities, school events, spring camps, and summer camps. Lead teacher training sessions on Mandarin teaching methods and help compile training materials. Perform other duties as requested. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of face-to-face teaching experience with children ages 3 to 12, working 20+ hours per week. Experience teaching children in a classroom setting. Master's degree in Education preferred. Ability to design curriculum and implement lessons using student-centered principles. Ability to plan and facilitate hands-on, engaging lessons. Ability to effectively manage a classroom of approximately 15 students. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Willingness to learn and use tools such as Google Docs and Google Sheets. Ability to communicate in person and by email in clear, simple English. Availability to work during spring camps and summer camps. Legal authorization to work in the United States.
