Job Summary:
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher is committed to fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that supports the academic and linguistic development of English Learners (ELs). The ESL Teacher will provide direct English language instruction, collaborate with content teachers, and ensure ESL students receive equitable access to all school programs and services. This job description outlines the core duties and responsibilities for the position. It is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all tasks that may be required in this role. The ideal candidate should be flexible and adaptable in meeting the evolving needs of the District.
Key Responsibilities:
Model the mission and core values of the school. Provide individualized, small group, and whole-group ESL instruction to English Learners. Collaborate with classroom teachers to align ESL instruction with students' English language development and classroom content. Work closely with the school's instructional leadership team, instructional coaches, and ESL Director to ensure appropriate support and services for ESL students. Administer state-mandated assessments such as ACCESS for ELLs and maintain accurate student records in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations. Attend and host parent-teacher conferences to discuss students' progress and strategies for supporting their development. Participate in at least two parent workshops, events, or groups to foster family engagement. Attend and actively participate in required professional development opportunities that enhance ESL instruction. Stay current on ESL teaching methods, cultural sensitivity, and second language acquisition theories. Meet weekly with SEI teachers to plan lessons, assess student progress, and refine instructional strategies. Utilize varied assessment tools and strategies to monitor and support student progress. Reflect on professional practices, collaborate with colleagues and administrators, and pursue professional growth opportunities. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the building administration and/or ESL Director.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, English as a Second Language, Linguistics, or a related field (Master's preferred) Experience working in multilingual students Familiarity with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and DESE regulations for English Learners. Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English as a Second Language (ESL) at the appropriate grade level required. Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required. Compliance with all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and "Highly Qualified" under NCLB (No Child Left Behind). Authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment. Ability to model excellent spoken and written English for students. Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred
Additional Requirements:
Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to lift, move, or assist students when necessary. Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the district.
Work Environment:
The work environment is typically in an office or school setting. Remote work opportunities are limited and require approval. Travel between school buildings required. The role may require lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying, and ability to use office equipment.

Compensation and Benefits:
Annual Full-Time Exempt Salary Position, schedule following the academic calendar year. Compensation based on the current School's Instructional Salary Scale.
