JOB DESCRIPTION
LAHC is seeking applications for a full-time probationary tenure track position in Biological Sciences beginning the Fall 2026 semester. This position is a ten-month (C basis) academic position that will be 100% in-person including sections on the LAHC campus and dual enrollment sections at offsite locations. This assignment may include teaching day, evening, and weekend sections on the LAHC campus or at offsite locations. The primary emphasis is teaching Majors and Non-Majors Biology, but also other courses in related disciplines requiring the same minimum qualifications as Biology, such as Anatomy, Microbiology, and Physiology. The faculty member would participate in the growth and development of the Biological Sciences programs (degrees and certificates), including curriculum and program development, Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) assessment, and annual and comprehensive program reviews. Faculty members are also required to serve on college-wide participatory governance committees. LAHC is looking for dynamic and motivating faculty who are enthusiastic to serve students and the community.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in any biological science ; OR Bachelor's Degree in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, marine science, psychobiology, natural history, genetics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, ecology with a biology emphasis, environmental science with a biology emphasis, biomedical science/bioscience, pathology or molecular pathology, public health, pharmacology, endocrinology, exercise physiology, neuroscience (including Neurobiology, Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology), OR The equivalent. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabilities, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
: Recent college-level teaching experience; Evidence of learner-centered teaching and ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed; Experience with a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles; Online teaching experience and Distance Education (DE) certification; Experience teaching a diverse student population; Ability to adapt to change and work effectively with faculty, staff and administrators; Networks in local, regional or national professional or educational organizations.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty members at LAHC are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and engaging learning environments. The successful applicant will be required to fulfill a 30-hour per week assignment as specified by the current Labor Contract; the assignment is divided between teaching and departmental duties. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Teach thirty load hours over an academic year in accordance with established course outlines. For the 10-month academic year (15 load hours per semester). Teaching assignments may include evenings and weekends, online or hybrid classes, or classes taught at local high schools or other offsite location. Maintain scheduled office hours for student contact (at least 5 hours, 35 minutes per week). Participate in regular department and campus responsibilities (senate, accreditation, curriculum, participatory governance, etc.). Assess student performance and maintain accurate student records. Submit syllabi, rosters and grades in a timely fashion. Provide leadership in the Biological Sciences discipline. Advise, assist, and mentor students to promote student learning, student success and retention. Facilitate student achievement of certificates and degrees by assisting the department to advise, guide, and inform students of options and procedures. Participate in the development and the assessment of student learning outcomes (SLOs). Participate in annual and comprehensive program review. Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline. Update department course curricula including developing hybrid and/or online courses. Develop resources, materials, and strategies, including using multimedia technology, to teach students in a multicultural environment. Proficiency using current teaching and workplace technology and software.GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.Eligibility Requirement:

The current starting range is from $76.960 - $143,000 . The doctoral differential is $4,870 per academic year. The district provides an excellent benefits package including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.FILING AN APPLICATION
