THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY POSITION TITLE
Teacher

Teacher•Online Course
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution as determined by the Florida Department of Education 2. Certified by the State of Florida in the appropriate subject area 3.
Physical Requirements:
Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects 4. Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening
ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ability to plan, design and develop online course content and assessments. 2. Infuses 21st century technology and skills into content. 3. Knowledge and experience working within learning management systems. 4. Experience in providing professional development in instructional technology.
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process 2. Identifies or develops long•and short-term plans based on student needs which are consistent with District and State curriculum requirements 3. Plans and prepares lessons and instructional strategies which support the school improvement plan and the District mission 4. Identifies, selects, and develops or modifies instructional materials to differentiate support learning objectives and to meet the needs of students with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs 5. Assists in preparing for changing curriculum needs and continuous improvement 6. Assists with enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy 7. Establishes and maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures, including student records subject to the requirements of the Family Rights and Privacy Act 8. Manages time effectively 9. Interprets and utilizes data (including, but not limited to, standardized and other test results) 10. Establishes appropriate testing environment, and ensure test security 11. Applies principles of learning and effective teaching in instructional delivery 12. Differentiates instruction by using a variety of instructional strategies appropriate for teaching students from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles and special needs 13. Uses appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students including tutoring when needed 14. Provides quality work for students, focused on meaningful, relevant, and engaging learning experiences 15. Ensures student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or student program classification 16. Provides instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials, equipment, and online safety where appropriate 17. Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse, and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions 18. Collaborates with students, parents, school staff, and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needs 19. Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment 20. Assists others in acquiring knowledge and understanding of particular area of responsibility 21. Engages in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills 22. Conducts personal assessment periodically to determine professional development needs with reference to specific instructional assignment 23. Acts in a professional and ethical manner and adhere at all times to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct 24. Fulfills professional responsibilities and meets established performance targets/goals 25. Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services, and programs 26. Communicates effectively with students, parents, and staff in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills within established timeliness 27. Knowledge of curriculum content and instructional best practices for online learning 28. Demonstrate operational knowledge of Internet and Web-related technologies and uses appropriate materials, technology, and resources to help meet learning needs of all students 29. Design and implement virtual learning that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district 30. Develop, implement, and evaluate the virtual curriculum, schedule, philosophy, goals, and objectives reflecting school, District, Federal, and State goals 31. Assist students and parents with technical support requests relating to the course interface and student information systems 32. Uses a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasks 33. Assist in providing information to community groups, schools, or parents about virtual instruction 34. Participate in community-based extracurricular activities as requested 35. Interprets and utilizes standard formative and summative assessments in order to differentiate and improve instructional practices and strategies to assist the continuous development of learners 36. Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and providing feedback to students and parents within established timeliness 37. Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification 38. Meet program expectations for progress monitoring and demonstrate gains in student performance 39. Maintain records of parent and student contact 40. Refer students who are not complying with course or program policies to the site administrator for necessary interventions within established timelines 41. Alert site administrator when a student, parent, or guidance counselor fails to respond to attempts to communicate within established timeline

Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator
TERM:
Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process
APPRAISAL
Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies
PAY GRADE
According to the School Board of Highlands County Instructional Salary Schedule
