Job Description
Assistant Professor Finance/Financial Planning (Tenure-track) or Instructor of Finance/Financial Planning (Non-tenure track) Young Harris College The Young Harris College Department of Business and Public Policy seeks applicants for an in-person, full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance/Financial Planning or a non-tenure-track Instructor of Finance/Financial Planning position. This position will serve as Program Coordinator for the financial planning minor and will instruct assigned introduction to economics and financial planning courses. The Department of Business and Public Policy offers an interdisciplinary program inspired by former Georgia Governor Zell Miller that trains students, in the liberal arts tradition, to think critically and creatively about the interplay between business and the political process. The department offers majors in Finance and Accounting, Marketing, Management, Business Analytics, Business Administration, and Law and Public Policy. The role includes serving as a student advisor in the Business and Public Policy department. The candidate should be flexible, collegial, and strongly committed to teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, in addition to demonstrating qualifying graduate hours. Holding the Certified Financial Planner ™ credential is highly preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach the assigned full-time course load, consisting of finance and financial planning classes. Full-time course loads consist of 24 credit hours (8 classes) per academic year or 12 credit hours (4 classes) per semester. Preferred candidates will also be available to teach accounting courses.- Act as Program Coordinator for CFP® Board Registered Program in Financial Planning. Provide vision, direction, and administrative oversight for the program.
- Develop engaging content that is inclusive, student-centered, and supportive of a liberal arts environment.
- Act as an Advisor for majors in the Department of Business and Public Policy, including students pursuing the Finance/Accounting major and/or the Financial Planning minor.
- Provide Institutional service through committee work.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Provide insight and contributions to the vision, direction, and administrative support of the Department of Business and Public Policy.
- Support the college and department with program assessment duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate at the assistant professor level must hold a terminal degree in finance, financial planning, or a closely related degree, demonstrating successful completion of a minimum of 18 graduate hours in financial planning or 18 graduate hours in a finance-related major with completion of a CFP® Board Registered Program in Financial Planning or currently possessing the CFP® credential.
- The successful candidate at the instructor level must possess an earned master's in finance, financial planning, or a closely related degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
Additional Qualifications:
- Candidates who can teach courses, including but not limited to the following, are highly preferred: Fundamentals of Finance, Intermediate Corporate Finance, Estate Planning, and Taxation for Financial Planning.
- Qualifications to teach Accounting is preferred but not required.
- At least three years of relevant professional experience in financial planning, finance, and/or accounting is preferred.
- Previous experience teaching college courses is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in managing programs, assessment, college teaching experience, advising students, and active membership in related professional associations is preferred.
- Commitment to student success in a liberal arts, in-person learning environment.
- Commitment to building a diverse and inclusive college community.
