Position description The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach undergraduate courses in all areas within chemical and biomolecular engineering, though candidates with experience in biochemical engineering laboratory will receive special consideration, should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. This position is in a represented bargaining unit. The vibrant community of CBE is situated within the College of Chemistry, a small college within a large campus, with a connected and collegial feel. The College provides comprehensive student support services including peer tutoring, professional advising, career placement, and drop-in counseling. Award-winning student groups including chapters of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), American Cancer Society (ACS) and Chemical Engineering Car (Chem-E-Car) enhance the student experience, and faculty members mentor students in clubs and teams in biofuels technology, cosmetics formulation, phytoremediation, and research projects. General Duties Classroom/laboratory teaching and preparation, managing and mentoring graders and/or graduate student instructors (teaching assistants), holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and using Cal's electronic resources for course management.
