Job Description
Position Summary The Part-Time Esports Coach is responsible for launching, coordinating, and leading Drake State Community & Technical College's pilot competitive gaming (esports) co-curricular program. This role supports student engagement, retention, and workforce readiness by providing structured competitive gaming experiences that emphasize teamwork, leadership, academic accountability, and career-ready skill development. The coach will oversee practices, competitions, and student development while working collaboratively with Student Services and institutional partners.

$30 per hour- Part-time
- Maximum of (15) hours per week
Campus Hours :
8:00 am- 5:30 pm Monday
- Thursday and 8:00 am
- 12:00 pm Friday Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The part-time Esports Coach shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook. Program Development and Coordination Assist with the establishment and implementation of Drake State's pilot esports program Support the selection and oversight of one or more competitive game titles appropriate for community college participation Establish team expectations, practice schedules, and competitive procedures Coordinate participation in approved collegiate esports leagues or competitions Ensure compliance with NJCAA Esports Guidelines and those of other membership organizations Coaching and Competitive Oversight Plan and supervise team practices, scrimmages, and competitions Provide instruction on gameplay fundamentals, strategy, communication, and teamwork Review gameplay to identify areas of improvement in performance and coordination Emphasize sportsmanship, integrity, and positive conduct in all competitive activities Student Development and Academic Accountability Promote balance between academic responsibilities and co-curricular participation Reinforce college expectations related to academic eligibility and student conduct Support the development of leadership, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills Provide mentorship and appropriate guidance to student participants Collaboration, Supervision, and Reporting Work collaboratively with Student Affairs, Workforce Development, IT staff, and faculty advisors Assist with basic program reporting, including participation, attendance, and outcomes Communicate program needs, challenges, and successes to supervisory staff Support institutional assessment and continuous improvement efforts Facilities and Equipment Oversight Assist with oversight of esports practice space or gaming lab during team activities Ensure proper use and care of college-owned equipment and technology Follow institutional policies regarding technology use and safety Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to foster inclusive, respectful, and team-oriented environments Ability to motivate and engage diverse student populations Strong problem—solving and conflict-resolution skills Basic technology troubleshooting and platform familiarity Commitment to student success and institutional mission Work Environment and Conditions Work is primarily conducted indoors, including gaming or computer lab environments Position requires sustained use of computers and gaming equipment Background check required prior to employment Reasonable accommodations provided in accordance with applicable laws Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor and/or the President Evaluation and Employment Terms This position is part of a pilot program and is subject to annual evaluation based on participation outcomes, and institutional priorities. Continued employment is contingent upon program success and administrative approval Job description may be modified or altered at any time by management QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED Demonstrated experience in competitive gaming or organized esports activities Knowledge of esports rules, competitive structures, and online platforms Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Ability to work evenings and occasional weekendsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous coaching, mentoring, or student leadership experience Experience working with community college, adult, or nontraditional students Familiarity with collegiate esports leagues or competitive formats Experience in education, youth programs, or workforce development settings Application Procedures/Additional Information Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and must submit a complete application packet through the NEOED on-line application system to be considered.
