Job Description
Job Overview Join our dynamic athletic department as a Freshmen and JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at Washington High School! This 2 stipend position and 2 volunteer . This offers a fantastic opportunity to inspire young athletes, develop their skills, and foster a love for sports. You will be instrumental in guiding student-athletes through their athletic journey, promoting teamwork, discipline, and personal growth also professional development in coaching basketball. Your energy and passion will help shape the next generation of athletes while contributing to a vibrant school community. Responsibilities Lead and coordinate coaching efforts for freshmen and junior varsity teams, ensuring effective practice sessions and game strategies. Assist the varsity head coach in planning training programs, game plans, and team development initiatives. Foster a positive team environment by promoting sportsmanship, behavior management, and respect among players. Develop individualized skill improvement plans for athletes in sports such as basketball, cheerleading, climbing, martial arts (including karate, judo), swimming, and other physical activities. Monitor student-athletes' progress both on and off the field, including working with students with diverse needs such as childcare or teaching physical education. Ensure safety protocols are followed during practices and games; leverage lifeguard experience if applicable to enhance safety measures. Communicate regularly with parents, school staff, and athletic department personnel to support student-athlete success. Skills Proven experience in sports coaching across multiple disciplines such as basketball, cheerleading, climbing, martial arts (karate, judo), swimming, or related physical activities. Background in teaching or working with students in educational or childcare settings. Strong understanding of behavior management techniques to promote discipline and positive conduct among young athletes. Ability to lead engaging practices that develop technical skills and teamwork. Knowledge of safety standards related to physical education environments; lifeguard experience is a plus. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with students, parents, and school staff. Passion for mentoring youth through sports while fostering confidence and resilience.
