JOB PURPOSE
The Assistant Coach for Men's Baseball assists the Head Coach in all aspects of running the Men's Baseball program. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, scouting, recruiting, organizing practice, game preparation, and scheduling. The Assistant Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Pomona College, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), and the NCAA Division III.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reporting directly to the Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director, the Assistant Coach position will provide opportunities and responsibilities in the areas of athletic performance that include, but are not limited to: Organization of practice plans and on-field instruction. Developing game-day strategies and tactical planning. Assessing and recruiting potential student athletes. Scouting opponents and creating scouting reports for competition. Video breakdown, for team and player analysis. Camp and clinics operations. Supporting player communication and feedback.
ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT DUTIES AND OPPORTUNITIES
Fall and Winter Season Only:
Serve as home contest manager. Opportunities to work alongside athletics communications. Assist with club sports.
Year-long Opportunities:
oversight of the Athletic Performance Center, assisting with the Center for Athletics, Recreation, and Wellness, and serving on department committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
1.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required; previous playing or coaching experience is required. Capacity to positively interact with and support a culturally, ethnically, economically, and socially diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. 2.
Licenses/Certificates:
A valid driver's license is required or an equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. 3.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a coach at the collegiate or professional level of athletics.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS
Coaches are professionals who practically foundational knowledge to assess, motivate, educate, and train athletes for the primary goal of improving sport performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs, and provide guidance for athletes in nutrition and injury prevention. The Assistant Coach will work as a member of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics and support the mission, goals, and procedures of the Pomona-Pitzer Athletic Department. They will demonstrate an understanding of the role NCAA Division III athletics plays in the educational process and be able to support the unique balance which must be maintained by the successful student-athlete at Pomona-Pitzer.
REQUIRED HOURS AND ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefit-eligible position. The hourly rate for this role is $16.90 per hour, 15-20 hours per week, depending on the competitive season. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior role. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
