CPR Full Job Description Overview:
Join our team as a Swim Instructor to teach water safety and swim skills to children with disabilities. Our Swim Instructor role goes beyond basic instruction, focusing on teaching water safety, stroke techniques and confidence-building strategies tailored to each swimmer's needs.
Essential Job Function:
Instruct clients using the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim method, the Watersafe Smart Fish method and other Red Cross water safety courses, incorporating adaptive teaching methods and individualized strategies to ensure that children can fully participate and benefit from the program. Utilize course materials effectively to accommodate varying learning needs. Adapt teaching to the age, experience, ability, and specific needs of participants to ensure they can meet course objectives. Modify instructions, pacing, and support to provide an inclusive learning environment for students with physical, cognitive, or sensory impairments. Provide for the health and safety of all participants, ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are adapted to meet the safety and accessibility needs of all students. Cover all material required in each level, making necessary adaptations to ensure that students are able to engage with and learn the material at a pace that supports their progress. Communicate regularly with participants and their parents to ensure they are aware of their child's progress and any individualized adjustments being made in the lesson plans. Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans. Ensure that all safety procedures are inclusive and account for any specific needs of program participants . Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations. Write and maintain timely documentation records and track their progress toward meeting course objectives in a way that reflects their individual capabilities and achievements. Participate in regular in-service training sessions to stay informed about best practices for inclusion and individualized instruction. Complete additional duties as assigned, including supporting adaptive programs and assisting with specialized training for staff working with special needs participants.
Minimum Requirements/Work Experience:
Current certification in the following: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Job Location:
Tichenor Orthopedic Clinic, occasionally other community agencies.
