Job Description

Note for Applicants Newport Sea Base is owned and operated by the Orange County Council, Boys Scouts of America (OCBSA). Types of Classes Middle School Rowing, Competitive Juniors, Masters, Learn to Row. Types of Shells 1x, 2x, 2-, 4x, 4+, 8+ Overview of the Position Rowing coaches implement programs in conjunction with the Rowing Director and BSA program standards. A coach serves with a major responsibility for customer service, instruction, program development, class/activity planning, and behavior management of participants. Adheres to Newport Sea Base health and safety standards. You must be at least 18 years old, be certified in CPR and First Aid, and attain your CA Boater's Card upon being hired. Needs to be enthusiastic, patient, creative, and have a sense of humor and self-control. All instructors must be able to swim. Must be comfortable communicating with children, teens, and parents. Directly reports to the Rowing Director.
For Rowing Coaches:
US Rowing Coaching Level 1 certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard or BSA Lifeguard certifications recommended. Responsibilities/Duties Prepare and deliver lesson plans/activities to athletes in a well-planned, fun and engaging manner. Develop and write program curriculum for new and existing classes. Provide active supervision ensuring a safe environment for all participants. Take roll and track attendance, and turn rosters into supervisors regularly. Assist Head Coaches/Rowing Director in monitoring inventory of program equipment. Help with maintenance and rigging of shells, oars, and other program equipment. Ensure proper set-up, usage, and clean-up of the facility, equipment, and docks. Report program/equipment concerns to supervisor immediately. Be a positive role model and mentor to participants. Enforce participant-discipline procedures according to Newport Sea Base policy. Communicate thoroughly and effectively with other program staff. Participate in scheduled staff trainings throughout the year. Be comfortable learning how to operate and maintain a coaching launch. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
