USD Women Club Volleyball Coach University of San Diego - 4.1 San Diego, CA Job Details Part-time From $1,500 a year 1 day ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications School experience Student recruitment Sports coaching Working with high schoolers High school diploma or GED Team development Full Job Description Overall Coaching Responsibility Overview The University of San Diego women's club volleyball team is currently accepting applications to fill its vacant head coaching position. The Toreros are currently a member of the Southern California Collegiate Volleyball League (SCCVL) and the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF). The team placed #34 this previous year and the year before placed #5 in D1 at the NCVF National Tournament. Therefore, our women's volleyball team is a competitive, high-level program. The incoming coach will be responsible for advising and collaborating with the student leaders of the women's volleyball team. The University of San Diego Women's Volleyball Team is a student-run collegiate sport club at USD. As a student-run club, the University expects the students to handle all aspects of running the club which includes the team's budget and coaching compensation. The coach is expected to allow students to run the program off the court and strictly coach and mentor players on the court. Goal of the Coach To coach and assist the student-athletes on the Women's Club Volleyball team so that they can improve on an individual basis and build team cohesion. To help provide a well-organized, fresh, smooth-functioning, positive, and productive athletic environment that prepares students to play volleyball competitively at a high level. General Requirements Assist players in recruiting student-athletes through tryouts Organize and lead our practices Communicate with the Leadership Team in a timely manner (General Manager, Finance Manager, Risk Manager) Remain professional in communication and interactions with players/Sports Club staff both on and off the court Maintain a professional demeanor and attire during games and practices Be approachable and open to player inquiry Uphold the culture of the USD Women's Club Volleyball team by enforcing team guidelines, USD's Code of Conduct, and continuing the tradition of high standards for both athletes and coaches Understand and emphasize the important balance between academics and athletics in the lives of the student-athletes Please note that although we prioritize our team as being competitive; school and academics come first for our athletes. They will communicate and work with the coach ahead of time if conflicts arise. Job Duties Show up to practices with a plan that is fresh, relevant, and helps to improve players' skills and the competitiveness of the team Establish a practice routine (i.e. warm-ups, stretches, etc.) Provide positive reinforcement to players Foster a professional and productive environment for all players Mentor and guide players to be good and industrious individuals both on and off the court Establish a team culture of commitment, focus, and responsibility (i.e. show up to practice on time including nets/equipment set-up prior to practice start, etc.) Commitment Requirements This position is contracted semester to semester with an at-will agreement per term. While we do expect our coach to continue on for at least a full academic year, their status will be reevaluated at the end of every semester. The club members and the coach have the option to extend or terminate the agreement per semester. The team prefers a coach to extend their contract for at least 4 semesters pending review from the members. There are practices and competitions during the school week as well as typically on the weekends, therefore, the head coach, must: Attend all games, tournaments, and practices both in and out of state Practices Fall semester : MW late evening, usually around 8-10p at USD Practices Spring semester:
TBD Games/Tournaments:
Saturdays and/or Sundays (within Southern California or Arizona) Attend NCVF Nationals TBD - usually mid-April (expenses for Nationals covered under our Team Budget) Determine game/tournament line-ups Coach is responsible to pay for their own food at tournaments. Travel The coach is responsible to find their own transportation to and from tournaments/practices - the coach may not ride with players. •Coach will be responsible to pay for their means of transportation to the tournament. •
Exception:
Travel to and from Nationals and hotel at Nationals is subsidized by the team.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma required
Coaching Experience:
High school or club level required
Playing Experience:
High school level required College or collegiate club level preferred Compensation Compensation will be $1,500 per semester to start. An increase may be determined by the players based on the quality of experience and coaching performance with the USD Women's Club Volleyball Team.
