The Lycée Français de San Francisco (Lycée) is a French Immersion and French acquisition school, college Preparatory School in the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide a challenging educational environment based on the French national curriculum, enriched by English classes from PS-12th grade. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a well-structured, well-assimilated body of general knowledge, while encouraging the development of analytical and critical thinking skills. Our students earn an American high school diploma and prepare for the French Baccalauréat, which qualifies them for both American and European universities.POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach to lead our High School Boys Varsity program for the Winter 2026-27 season. The ideal candidate has experience coaching at the varsity, club, or college level and is committed to player development, team culture, and competitive growth. This position works closely with the Athletics Department and the other basketball coaching staff to align practice plans, game preparation, and player development across the JV and Varsity programs.SEASON & COMMITMENT
Winter 2026-27 (HS Boys Varsity) Season window: Mid-October 2026- end of February 2027 Pre-season practices: mid-October through December (2 practices/week) Regular-season games: January and February (2 games/week) Season length: approximately 19-20 weeks 1 pre-season and 1 post-season league coaches meeting (mandatory)

High School (HS Boys Varsity)Mondays:
Sunset Recreation Center or Ortega court — 1.5 hours (exact time set with Athletics)Wednesdays/Fridays:
Waller Center or Ortega court — 1.5 hours (exact time set with Athletics) Game days: typically 2 per week during January and FebruaryCOMPENSATION
Flat season stipend: $3,500 (paid in installments over the season) Stipend covers all practices, regular-season games, and pre/post-season league meetings Playoff games included in the stipend if the team qualifies Approximate weekly load: ~3 hours of practice + 0-2 games per week (peaks at 2 games/week in January-February)RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and lead engaging, well-structured practices with clear technical and tactical objectives Develop fundamental and advanced basketball skills appropriate to the varsity level (ball-handling, shooting, passing, finishing, team offense and defense) Build a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture Prepare the team for league games, tournaments, and playoff competition Scout opponents and adjust game plans (varsity) Support player development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and commitment Collaborate with the Athletics Department on scheduling, rosters, transportation, and program growth Communicate clearly and proactively with players and families about expectations, schedules, and progress Ensure student safety and adherence to school policies at all practices and games Attend pre-season and post-season league coaches meetingsREQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience coaching basketball at the High School varsity, club, or college level required Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, drills, offensive and defensive systems, and game strategy Familiarity with HS league competition in San Francisco or similar urban leagues Ability to design structured practice plans aligned with clear performance objectives Strong communication and leadership skills with students and families Reliable, punctual, and professional Ability to manage groups of student-athletes in a school setting CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Background check clearance required Prior competitive playing experience (HS, college, club, or equivalent) preferred Coaching certification(s) or formal training preferred French is a plusTO APPLY
