Job Description

Position Summary, Duties and Responsibilities Apex Park and Recreation District is looking for an energetic, dependable, and community-minded Youth Sports Coach to support youth sports camps, classes, leagues, and special events. This position works directly with young athletes in a fun, safe, and inclusive recreation environment. The ideal candidate enjoys working with kids, has a positive attitude, communicates well with families and staff, and is comfortable helping with a variety of sports and activities. This position may assist with basketball, flag football, ninja classes, sports camps, skills clinics, special events, and other youth recreation programs as needed. The Youth Sports Coach may be responsible for: Leading or assisting youth sports classes, camps, clinics, and activities. Teaching basic skills, rules, teamwork, sportsmanship, and age-appropriate fundamentals. Helping set up, take down, and organize equipment before and after programs. Supporting youth sports leagues, including game day operations, check-in, supervision, and facility flow. Assisting with special events, tournaments, camps, and seasonal programs. Creating a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for all participants. Communicating professionally with parents, participants, coaches, officials, and Apex staff. Helping manage participant behavior using positive, age-appropriate guidance. Monitoring program areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper use of facilities. Reporting injuries, incidents, concerns, or facility issues to the Recreation Coordinator or site supervisor. Serving as a positive role model for young athletes. Supporting Apex's mission of building community through recreation. Job Qualifications Preferred candidates would be experienced at teaching youth ages 1.5-16 the basic skills, rules, and fun-natured culture of recreational learn-to-play sports; however, if you have a strong athletic background, we are willing to train the right people. Must be at least 15 years of age. Must enjoy working with children and families. Basic knowledge of sports, recreation, or youth programming. Strong communication and customer service skills. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to lead groups of children in a safe and organized manner. Willingness to learn different sports, activities, and program expectations. Must be able to pass any required background checks. First Aid/CPR certification preferred or ability to obtain after hire. Education and Experience Knowledge of basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, ninja/obstacle-style programming, or general youth sports. Work Environment Physical Activities Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or sit on the floor as needed during activities or tasks. Ability to monitor participants, ensure safety, and respond to signals or emergencies. Duties may require sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, or stooping for extended periods of time. Ability to react quickly and appropriately to the physical needs or emergencies of children or participants. Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking loudly, when necessary, in noisy or outdoor environments. Ability to work most of the day on your feet, performing both active supervision and hands-on tasks. Work Environment Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, cold, snow, and humidity. Noise levels range from moderate to loud, often due to active children, group interactions, or busy transportation settings. Work may occur in environments with poor acoustics, distractions, or high activity levels.
