Job Description

JOB TITLE
Varsity Assistant Coach - Boys Basketball
JOB DESCRIPTION
Addenbrooke Classical Academy is looking for a dynamic servant leader to support the head coach in the development and growth of our boy's basketball program. It is expected that applicants for the position be willing to supportthe athletic program purpose: "To help boys and girls become men and women of empathy and integrity who will lead, be responsible, and change the world for good." This means in addition to teaching the fundamental skills, strategy, and teamwork necessary for athletic success coaches should model and teach character development along with the habits and skills necessary for success later in life. At Addenbrooke, we believe in educating the whole person and our teacher-coaches play a crucial role in supporting our student-athletes growth and development.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Basketball experience required. Coaching experience preferred. Experience working with high school-age children preferred. Outstanding organization and communication skills preferred. Successfully pass the CHSAA coaches test, acquire CHSSA coaching registration and complete a concussion course per State Legislation and CHSAA By-Laws. CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required. JeffCo District Authorization required (background check and fingerprinting).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The assistant coach reports to the head coach and athletic director. The assistant coach supports the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. The assistant coach organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach. Assesses player's skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students. Assists with determining game strategy. The assistant coach helps support the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition. The assistant coach supports the head coach in maintaining a safe environment for all student-athletes under their care. This means compliance with all sports medicine expectations (concussion sit-out, observed lightning, heat exhaustion, etc…), active supervision, and prevention of bullying/hazing activities. Additionally, assistant coaches should help document and communicate with the athletic director any issues related to student safety. The assistant coach is responsible for teaching and modeling good sportsmanship and character development. Appropriate behavior towards players, officials, opponents, and spectators should be demonstrated at all times. The assistant coach supports the head coach in setting the roster, checking eligibility, collecting the necessary paperwork, and tracking statistics. The assistant coach helps support the head coach in communicating with the athletic director, parents, students, the community, and the media. Professionalism and adherence to the Coaches Code of Conduct is expected in all communication. The assistant coach is responsible for building positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, and the school community. The assistant coach supports the head coach in scheduling and planning for practices, games, and team events. Additionally, the assistant coach helps plan and supervise transportation. The assistant coach helps support the head coach with checking out and checking back in athletic equipment and uniforms for their team(s). The assistant coach is responsible for maintaining compliance with CHSAA bylaws. This includes ensuring students have been cleared to participate with the athletic director. It also includes enforcing academic and behavior expectations of the school. The assistant coach is required to maintain knowledge and compliance of all district and school policies.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Heavy physical lifting (50 lbs - items of various shapes and sizes). Overhead lifting and squatting required on a daily basis. Repetitive motion. Standing, bending and kneeling. Eye/hand coordination. Handling, talking, hearing and near acuity required.
COMPENSATION
A one time stipend will be offered each season.
