Job Description

Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and experienced figure skating coach to join our team to provide instruction to skaters and mentor our youth while fostering a positive and encouraging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
    Instruction:
    Conduct group skating lessons (freestyle, edges, power and choreography)
    • Show preparation: Choreeograph and support skaters for annual show performances.
    • Competitive preparation: Choreograph skating and prepare skaters for USFS competitions, tests, ice shows and exhibitions throughout the year.
    Mentorship:
    Help students reach their goals on and off the ice and cultivate a supportive training culture.
      Communication:
      Maintain regular, open communication with parents, guardians, and with team coaches regarding skater progress.
      Requirements & Qualifications:
      • 5+ years of coaching experience at the competitive level is preferred, with a strong understanding of techniques, training methodology, understanding of progresssions, and athlete development.
      • Willing to complete USFSA Compliance in good standing, requirements including and not limited to USFS Membership, background checks, SafeSport training and certification, and liability insurance.
      • Track record of coaching athletes to achieve competitive and non-competitive success, testing results
      Preferred:
      • Experience working with diverse age groups and skill levels
      • A professional coaching certification from USFSA organization
      • Current certification in First Aid and CPR
      • Proficiency in analyzing skating techniques and performance metrics and the use of video technology, harness use and or fishpole harness to enhance training sessions
      Certifications:
      USFSA current Coach Compliance, Learn to Skate USA instructor Certification, etc.
      Interpersonal skills:
      • Strong motivational and communication skills
      Flexibility:
      Willingness to work early mornings (before school), evening, afternoons and weekends to accommodate local school schedules.
      • Commitment to continuing professional development through workshops, seminars, or USFSA programs.
      Professional Expectations:
      • Uphold USFSA SafeSport standards
      • Maintain a positive rink environment and experience for all skaters
      • Model sportsmanship and healthy training habits
      • Represent the rink and the community positively at local and non-local events and competitions
      • Maintain training schedules and track athlete goals and progress
      • Assist with shows, exhibitions, and community events
      • Work cooperatively with the rest of the SSC coaching team
      • Communicate schedule changes as quickly as possible
      • Maintain consistent availability for lessons throughout the season

        Able to commute safely in winter weather conditions
        • Community minded: Enjoys working in a small-town setting where coaches are seen as community mentors.
        Versatility:
        Able to teach beginners (Learn to Skate) and advanced skaters alike, as small clubs often require a wider range of coaching capabilities.
