Job Description
Under general supervision, assists the Youth Coach with the planning, organization, and supervision of the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) swim team programs for participants 5-18 years of age. This is the entry level class in the Assistant Youth Coach/Youth Coach series. Incumbents entering this class have limited related work experience. The Assistant Youth Coach is flexibly linked to the Youth Coach. ILLUSTRATIVE
ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.) Assists with designing and implementing practices, workouts and training. Assists with setting up and taking down equipment. Assists with instructing tennis skills to participants of various levels. Ensures all possible safety measures are observed. Identifies and reports any hazards. Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems. Responds to emergency situations as required; maintains and forwards accurate accident and incident reports to supervisor. Reports any issues and concerns to supervisor. Attends trainings and meetings as required. Complies with city and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures. May act in Youth Coach's absence. May be required to work weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned.Education/Experience:
Requires one season of competitive tennis experience or participation. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certificates or the ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire. May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department. Knowledge of the sport of tennis. Knowledge of coaching tennis to participants of all abilities. Skill in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid activities. Skill in instructing and demonstrating tennis skills to participants of all abilities. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public. Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures. Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with the public. Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see and demonstrate manual dexterity, and is regularly required to stand and walk around for up to eight hours per day. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions. The employee may be exposed to various environmental weather conditions, including being in the sun and heat for up to eight hours per day, several days each week. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis. Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
