POSTING DATES
May 29, 2026 - Until filled Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare student academically, socially, emotionally for post-secondary education
  • Teach high school students: math, science, reading skills, comprehension, study skills, research techniques, career planning and development
  • Identify student areas of academic difficulty in core subject areas
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom learning environment
  • Supervise student field trips (hours will vary)
  • Cooperatively implement goals of the program
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Provide a support system for students
  • Attend weekly program staff meeting and building all staff meeting
  • Perform related duties as assigned
  • Regular and predictable attendance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Possess a Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with a major or minor in a core subject area preferred
  • Experience in teaching test strategies/preparation
  • Experience working with students of similar background as students being served
  • Prior experience working with TRIO programs preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Experience in curriculum development and individualized instruction
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to work in unique, non-traditional setting
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This person must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time and must be able to move about the classroom, building, etc. as needed. This person must be able to communicate with students, parents, other teachers and administrators and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This special projects position is grant funded and is contingent upon grant funding. The salary, length of the workday and the number of workdays is based on program needs and the Special Projects Non- Affiliated rates. Regular hours are Monday-Friday; 8am-3pm.
