Assistant Boys Cross Country Coach Reports to:Upper School Athletic Director Position Scope:
The Bolles School is a private college preparatory school with an international reputation for excellence. Located in Jacksonville, Florida, the school enrolls more than 1,700 boarding and day students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 on four campuses. Bolles focuses on a complete education that emphasizes excellence in academics, the arts, athletics and other activities like clubs and community service. Students can pursue their interests and learn to balance a rich variety of activities. The internationally recognized athletic program at Bolles provides students in middle and upper school the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop into well-rounded individuals. Participation and camaraderie are as important as competition and success in the overall educational aspect of the athletic program. While Bolles teams and athletes are often recognized for outstanding achievements and results on the field, the important lessons of leadership, self-discipline, and teamwork are the lasting rewards possible through athletic involvement at the School. With 42 teams at the middle, junior varsity, and varsity levels, Bolles offers a full complement of athletic opportunities. The student body regularly approaches or exceeds 90% participation in one or more sports. The school is currently seeking an Upper School Assistant Boys Cross Country Coach with a passion for running to join our coaching staff for the 2026-2027 school year. A good fit for this program is willing to learn on the job and show initiative for learning more to support the program needs while bringing a good sense of humor and a great work ethic. Additionally, the coach must be able to run with the team, manage interpersonal relationships, and trustingly engage in the process. The daily work schedule for each position will vary slightly throughout the season but will generally be focused on a 3:30-5:30pm time slot, Monday-Friday, as well as 5:45am-7:30am practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as Saturday meets and Long Runs. This position is paid a seasonal stipend.Essential Functions:
Supervise athletes during practices and meets, including general warm-up, preparation and post-race analysis Prepare and communicate season objectives Uses appropriate and varied coaching techniques Prepares and conducts regular assessments Supports the training plan and process Maintains order at practices, meets, and on trips, adhering to safety protocol Discusses students' athletic and behavioral attitudes and achievements on an as needed basis Supports and fosters positive communication among parents, advisors, colleagues and studentsQualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required; current collegiate players may be considered Demonstrated ability to creatively train athletes Demonstrated ability to support a coaching staff in an ever-evolving atmosphere such as novice players Prior coaching experience desired Knowledge of physical conditioning methods Solid interpersonal and communication skills Experience working with teenage students helpful Excellent character, integrity and adaptability The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screenGeneral:
