This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop personalized swimming programs tailored to individuals with varying abilities, including those with special needs or physical challenges. As an Adaptive Swim Instructor, you will create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that encourages progress and enjoyment in the water. Your passion for teaching and expertise in sports coaching will help transform lives through the power of aquatic activity. Duties Design and implement customized swim lessons for children with Autism that accommodate the unique needs of each student, ensuring safety and skill development. Provide clear, positive instruction on swimming techniques, water safety, and related sports activities such as martial arts or cheerleading when appropriate. Monitor student progress closely, adjusting teaching methods to maximize learning outcomes and confidence building. Maintain a safe aquatic environment by enforcing safety rules, supervising students at all times, and responding swiftly to emergencies using AED (Automated External Defibrillator) operation skills when necessary. Communicate effectively with students, parents, caregivers, and team members to provide updates on progress and address concerns. Incorporate behavior management strategies to foster respectful and focused learning sessions. Requirements Prior experience as a lifeguard or in water safety supervision is highly preferred. Demonstrated experience in working with children on the spectrum or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and engage students of all ages and abilities. Swim Instructor Certification, CPR/BLS (Basic Life Support) Background in teaching physical education or working with children with special needs is desirable.
