POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Varsity Cheer Head Coach is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of the Varsity cheer program. The Head Coach will promote school spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth while supporting the mission and values of DMS. The Head coach will ensure a safe, positive, and competitive environment for all student-athletes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, organize, and supervise all cheer practices, performances, competitions, and team activities. Teach and develop cheer fundamentals, including motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, choreography, sideline routines, and game-day responsibilities. Promote school spirit and positive representation of DMS at athletic events and community functions. Ensure proper safety procedures and stunt progression are followed at all times. Develop practice schedules, conditioning programs, and competition preparation plans. Supervise and mentor assistant coaches, volunteers and team personnel. Monitor student-athlete academic progress, attendance, behavior and eligibility requirements. Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school administration, officials, athletic director/trainer and department. Coordinate uniforms, equipment, music, travel and competition logistics. Maintain inventory and proper care of cheer equipment and facilities. Attend games, pep rallies, school events, competitions, coaches meetings, and league meetings as required. Ensure compliance with DMS (school), ILH (league), and HHSAA (state athletic association) policies and regulations. Support fundraising efforts and community engagement activities for the cheer program. Foster teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, discipline, and character development among student-athletes. Represent DMS and athletic department in a professional and positive manner.QUALIFICATIONS
Previous cheer coaching and/or competitive cheer experience preferred Knowledge of cheerleading techniques, safety standards, choreography, and competition rules. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes. Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred. Cheer safety certification preferred or required based onILH/HHSAA
guidelines. Completion of all required coaching certifications, training, and background clearances. Physical Demands- Ability to demonstrate cheerleading techniques and supervise physical activities for extended periods. Ability to lift, spot, and assist athletes safely during stunts and routines. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds. Work Environment
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required during the season. Expectations
