Water Babies Swim Teacher Water Babies Cedar Rapids Cedar Rapids, IA Job Details Part-time $16 - $22 an hour 19 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Lifeguard Training Customer service Driver's License Swimming Computers (educational technologies) Teaching Full Job Description Water Babies Cedar Rapids is looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our expanding team and contribute to our mission of inspiring a lifelong love of water from a young age! The main purpose of this role is to inspire children with a lifelong passion for the water and to enthuse their carers to want to teach their children to swim. Ultimately to deliver safe, fun, individualized and progressive lessons to children enabling them to be happy and confident in and around water and able to swim from an early age. Accountabilities The role holder is personally accountable for the following outcomes:
  • Creating and delivering engaging and progressive lessons in line with Water Babies standards
  • Ensuring a safe environment to teach children to swim
  • Inspiring children to want to exercise, and in particular swim, for life
  • Enabling children to be confident in the water
  • Developing supportive relationships with carers and their children
  • Representing the Water Babies brand positively
  • Managing changes and problems in the moment
  • Getting the basics right in terms of punctuality, tidiness etc.
  • Remaining up to date with all administrative tasks
  • Continuing to learn and develop knowledge to further improve teaching standards and Water Babies' operations using self-reflective practice. Main Activities
  • Create lesson plans based on age, ability and objectives for class
  • Deliver Water Babies lessons according to plans, adapting where necessary
  • Develop relationships with carers, children and pool staff
  • Provide weekly feedback on each class to the office.
  • Provide feedback to support development of children's swimming and water safety skills
  • Evaluate own teaching ability and update knowledge/ seek development where appropriate
  • Be ready for the first class commencing, to set up ready for lessons and remain on site until the last customer leaves.
  • Ensure all Water Babies Health and Safety standards and procedures are maintained at all times.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment in accordance with current guidance.
  • Correctly complete and submit timesheet on the required date each month.
  • Complete necessary pool assessments (risk, hygiene, chemical levels etc), taking action if required. Additional activities
  • Deal with any incidents arising such as pool problems, first aid, cancellations etc.
  • Report any incidents, accidents or near misses in line with Water Babies policies and procedures
  • Provide cover for colleagues when unwell
  • Pass on ideas about how to improve what we do or new business ideas.
  • Maintain qualifications
  • Help promote Water Babies through word of mouth, leafleting and events where appropriate Information What information does the Teacher work with?
During training and in role:
  • Lesson planning resources
  • Tablet - used for registers, lesson objectives, recording of progressions etc.
  • Blue Top Teams Site - used for skills information and videos, ideas for plans etc.
  • Operating procedures for pools Decisions The teacher has to decide:
  • To swim or not to swim based on pool conditions
  • What goes in lesson plans and how lessons are adapted in the moment
  • Knowing if outcomes are met
  • When to address carer conduct
  • When to request children move to different classes
  • If children are ready to attend a photoshoot
  • What to report back to the office Teachers have to refer the following decisions:
  • Safeguarding issues
  • Borderline pool levels
  • If risk assessments needed for medical conditions they find out about
  • Changes in classes for children - venue, level etc
  • Anything involving financial questions
  • Requests for time off work
  • Replacement of kit
  • Rescheduling of lessons Work Relationships
  • Children
  • Carers
  • Franchisee
  • Teaching team, in particular the Aquatics Director
  • Office team
  • Pool owners/operators
  • Water Babies Aquatics team Regulatory requirements
  • Background checks
  • Safeguarding certificate Essential/Mandatory Requirements Able to swim, and confident directing members of the public in and around water.
Able to meet the physical demands of the role Flexibility and ability to travel to all our offices and lesson venues with required equipment Able to use technology effectively to enhance pool/office communication Desirable/Optional Requirements Previous experience in an education/learning role/environment or child care setting Knowledge of Water Babies program and children's achievements within it Knowledge of child development Lifeguard qualification Experience/qualifications as a swimming teacher Experience of Customer Services The above duties are not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organization and the overall business objectives of the organization.
Pay:
$16.00 - $22.00 per hour
