SPECIFICATIONS
Required:
1. Previous experience in Cheerleading as participant and/or coach or related position. 2. High school diploma or equivalent. 3. Valid driver's license. 4. The ability to drive students to competition sites as required.
Desired:
1. CPR and First Aid Certification.
BASIC FUNCTION
Provides leadership to develop and maintain a high-quality cheer program that promotes school spirit. Supports each participating student in achieving a higher level of skill, an enhanced appreciation for the values of discipline and teamwork, and an increased level of self-esteem.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Coach and instruct cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport for events or competition. 2. Submit annual activity plan to activities office by October 1st. Submission of plan will be required before the initial stipend payment is paid. (Activity plan templates will be available) 3. Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development. 4. Organize meetings for team prospects and encourage student participation. Hold tryouts or conduct auditions to select members of the cheerleading squad 5. Assess skills and assign team positions. 6. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and provide proper supervision of students at all times. 7. Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met. 8. Work with the Activity Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season. 9. Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related records. 10. Conference with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student. 11. Supervise approved fundraising projects while working with Activity Director to ensure that all financial activities are processed through the proper student activity account. 12. Model sportsman-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators. 13. Act as a team representative and promote cheerleading by communicating with booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations. 14. Maintain open and ongoing communications with high school administration. 15. Submit reports (with student evidence) and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(for every DMPS position): 1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. 2. Maintain confidentiality. 3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees. 4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned 5. Attend district-wide meetings as requested.
