August 7, 2023 PRIMARY
FUNCTION
The Spoon River College coach teaches sport techniques, playing rules, strategies, and tactics for the applicable athletic program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teaches sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics; 2. Develops a conditioning program for athletes, appropriate for activities requiring endurance, strength, agility, etc.; 3. Supervises and conducts practices and contests safely; supervises locker rooms and weight rooms, group transportation (vans, buses, etc.); 4. Ensures that athletic facilities are in proper condition during practices and contests. Teaches sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team; 5. Monitors athletes' class attendance, grades and personal conduct; 6. Responds to player injuries with approved first aid techniques; 7. Manages uniforms, equipment, and facilities in a responsible manner; 8. Recruits athletes for athletic programs by speaking with coaches, reviewing recruiting game tapes, and visiting athletic contests. Directs potential recruits to appropriate student services department for financial aid, student advising or testing assistance. 9. Ensures that athletes have appropriate physical exam prior to practicing / competing. 10. Assists Athletic Director with game schedule. 11. Reports game statistics to the Athletic office. 12. Attends coaches meetings and all related training. 13. Requests funds for meals, travel, etc. through the Athletic Department office. 14. Maintains knowledge and compliance of applicable association rules and regulations. 15. Assist with budget management and fundraising. 16. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Knowledge of current coaching techniques, strategies, and rules is required. 2. A bachelor s degree in Physical Education or related field is preferred. 3. Previous coaching experience is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical demands for this position include the ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop/kneel, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. This position requires physical ability to instruct, drill, teach techniques and playing tactics and supervise / conduct practices and contests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Vision requirements for this position include close, distance, and peripheral vision including the ability to read instructions, drive safely and focus. Work environment for this position includes typical indoor and/or outdoor sporting events (extremes in temperature, humid conditions, etc. moderate noise).
