We are looking for a leader who is committed to developing successful student-athletes both in and out of the pool while building a competitive, sustainable, and respected aquatic program. Position Overview The Head Boys and Girls Swimming Coach will oversee all aspects of the swimming program, including athlete development, program culture, safety compliance, community engagement, and long-term program growth. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to mentorship, integrity, and leadership while promoting academic success, athletic excellence, and personal growth. Required Qualifications Previous coaching experience in competitive swimming at the high school, club, collegiate, or equivalent level. Strong knowledge of stroke technique, race strategy, training methodologies, and swimmer development. Current CPR/AED Certification (or ability to obtain prior to the season). Current First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain prior to the season). Current Lifeguard Certification preferred. USA Swimming, American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA), or equivalent coaching certifications preferred. Ability to pass all district, IHSA, and required background clearances. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Desired Characteristics We are seeking a coach who is: A positive role model and mentor for student-athletes. Responsibilities Lead and manage all aspects of the boys and girls swimming programs. Develop student-athletes athletically, academically, and personally. Establish and maintain a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, accountability, and respect. Ensure all safety protocols and aquatic facility procedures are followed. Supervise practices, meets, team travel, and offseason development opportunities. Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches. Promote athlete participation and retention within the program. Build positive relationships with feeder programs, swim clubs, and community organizations. Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and coaching staff. Ensure compliance with all school, conference, CPS, and IHSA regulations. Program Vision Requirement Applicants must submit a written plan outlining: Their vision for the future of Kenwood Academy Swimming. Strategies for increasing participation and athlete retention. A plan for developing both boys and girls programs at all levels. Approaches to community engagement and program visibility. Short-term and long-term goals for sustained competitive success. Methods for ensuring athlete safety, development, and academic achievement. Preferred Experience Experience building or rebuilding an athletic program. Experience coaching swimmers to conference, sectional, state, or national-level competition. Experience organizing swim meets, managing team operations, and coordinating with aquatic facilities. Experience working with diverse student populations and fostering an inclusive team culture. Compensation This is a stipend position through Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Coaches will be paid at the end of the season in accordance with the CPS coaching stipend schedule.
