Position Summary:
Summer Development Coaches support the vision and direction of the athletic program and play an integral role in the development, mentorship, conditioning, and engagement of student-athletes during the summer months. Reporting directly to the Athletic Director. Summer Development Coaches are responsible for assisting with the planning and facilitation of summer workouts, skill development sessions, conditioning activities, team-building opportunities, and program enrichment activities throughout June and July.
Essential Functions:
Consults immediately with the Head Coach on any coaching staff problem. Works cooperatively with the Head Coach. Attends professional development. Has membership in State and National Organizations. Shows an interest in athletes in off-season activities and classroom efforts. Demonstrates leadership and acceptable attitudes that produce positive efforts by student athletes. Provides an atmosphere of cooperation in being receptive to suggestions and by giving credit to those responsible for success. Recommends repairs and improvements to the athletic facilities. Reports any immediate repair needs. Oversees the issuance and collection of equipment. Properly stores and cares for equipment. Promotes good faculty and community public relations. Remember that student-athletes are students first. Attends as many programs as possible, honoring school athletes under their direction, i.e., Awards Night. Prepares a season resume in booklet form. Resume should contain season statistics, team roster, award winners, and any other pertinent information. Booklets should be made available for issue to team members at the awards program. One copy is to be filed with the Athletic Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Highly visionary, with a belief that all children and adults are capable of greatness. Deep understanding of equity, especially in an educational context. Deeply committed to growing and accepting feedback with a demonstrated track record of receiving feedback well and implementing feedback effectively. Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office). Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff). Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
Education/Certifications:
Certified Teacher and/or
ASEP Certification CPR/AED Certification Physical Requirements :
Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle and willing to transport teams to contest in district vehicles. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
