Head Swim Coach and Athletic Director Position Overview The High School Assistant Swim Coach supports the head coach in leading and developing the high school swim program. The assistant coach helps student-athletes grow in skill, discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal responsibility while promoting a positive and competitive team culture. This position assists with daily practices, meet preparation, athlete development, supervision, and program operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the head coach in planning and conducting practices for student-athletes. Provide instruction in swim techniques, stroke development, conditioning, and competition preparation. Support athletes in improving individual performance, teamwork, and understanding of the sport. Assist with preparing for meets, including event planning, opponent analysis, and team readiness. Attend and help supervise practices, meets, team events, and other related activities, including evenings and weekends as needed. Promote sportsmanship, discipline, respect, and a positive team culture. Support the academic success and well-being of student-athletes by encouraging appropriate balance and accountability. Assist with inventory, care, and organization of equipment and uniforms. Help coordinate team communication, logistics, and other operational needs of the swim program. Ensure compliance with school, athletic department, conference, and IHSAA expectations, policies, and procedures. Model professionalism and appropriate conduct with students, families, staff, officials, and the community. Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the head coach or athletic director. Qualifications Previous experience in swimming, preferably at a competitive level. Coaching experience is preferred but not required. Knowledge of swim rules, techniques, and athlete development. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration. Ability to motivate and support student-athletes in a positive manner. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching staff. Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for students. Requirements Must meet all district and IHSAA requirements for coaching assignments. Must complete all required trainings, certifications, and clearances. Must successfully pass all required background checks. Must follow all school corporation policies, procedures, and expectations.
