(IN-ATHC-IUINA) Job Summary This role requires a strong commitment to student-athlete success, both academically and athletically, and the ability to contribute to a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture. Department-Specific Responsibilities Supports the development and competitive success of the softball program. Assists the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting team practices, conditioning sessions, and skill development activities. Supports the development of student-athletes through instruction in softball fundamentals, strategy, and performance improvement. Assists with game day operations, including pre-game preparation, in-game coaching support, and post-game responsibilities. Participates in recruiting efforts, including identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes, maintaining communication, and assisting with campus visits in alignment with National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) guidelines. Promotes academic achievement, character development, and personal growth among student-athletes. Maintains consistent and professional communication with student-athletes, athletics staff, and campus partners. Assists with administrative duties such as scheduling, travel coordination, equipment inventory, and program documentation. Helps monitor student-athlete eligibility and supports retention and academic progress in accordance with university and NAIA standards. Promotes a culture of integrity, sportsmanship, respect, and inclusion within the program. Ensures compliance with all Indiana University, conference, and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics NAIA rules and regulations. Supports community engagement initiatives and represents IU Columbus Athletics in a professional manner. Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of IU Columbus Athletics. Qualifications EDUCATION
Required Bachelor's degree Preferred Bachelor's degree in sports management, exercise science, education, or a related field WORK EXPERIENCE
Required Previous playing and/or coaching experience in softball at the high school, collegiate, or higher level Preferred Collegiate coaching or playing experience Experience assisting with recruiting prospective student-athletes LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) SKILLS Required Demonstrated knowledge of softball rules, techniques, and strategies Experience supporting practices, skill development, or team operations Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Demonstrated commitment to supporting student-athlete academic and personal success Preferred Familiarity with NAIA rules, regulations, and eligibility standards Working Conditions / Demands The person in this role must be able to demonstrate softball techniques and participate in practice and training activities. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. The person in this role must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
