Head Varsity Football Coach atBrockton High School Job Summary:
The head football coach is responsible for various aspects of the Football Program, such as recruiting within the school and school district, training, and coaching team members. The head coach is also responsible for working with other members of the football staff. The head coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations set by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) as well as the rules and regulations set by the Brockton Public Schools.Job Specifications:
In order to be successful in this job, the applicant must be able to successfully perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.- Assist in distributing and collecting ALL uniforms at the start and end of the season.
- Ensure proper cleaning, maintenance of equipment and uniforms. Provide the Assistant Director of Athletics with a yearly inventory of all equipment and uniforms.
- 3 years of experience coaching football at the high school level.
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, opponents, officials, staff, parents, and students.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the football program.
- Hold informational meetings for middle school players and their parents to encourage them to participate in the football program at Brockton High School.
- Ensure all football coaches work together toward a common goal within the football program and provide unity within the Brockton youth and middle school football programs.
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
- Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Hold a preseason meeting with all student-athletes and parents before the first official game.
- Assess players' skills and assign team positions.
- Determine game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
- Identify student athletes who want to play collegiately and register those students to attend SAT prep classes at BHS throughout the school year. The classes are free to attend.
- Assist student athletes with college recruitment.
- Attend coaching clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Help distribute and collect all football equipment at the beginning and end of the season.
- Ensure that all game uniforms are collected, cleaned, inventoried and re-distributed on a weekly basis.
- Provide a yearly inventory of all equipment and uniforms.
- Monitor academic progress of all team members. Additional Knowledge/Skills/Attributes
- Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount. Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- The applicant must possess the ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the field.
- The applicant must be willing to accept a high level of accountability.
- The applicant must possess the ability to assess players and coaches effectively.
- The applicant should be a progressive thinker but a believer in planning and preparation.
- The applicant must be able to properly fit and repair helmets, shoulder pads and other football equipment.
MIAA/NFHS
Concussion Course and a First Aid and Safety Course (If not already certified.) It will be the responsibility of the coach to keep certifications current while continuing in the role.Position Type:
