Job Description:

The North Middlesex School District is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Girls Basketball Coach at Hawthorne Brook Middle School (Grades 5-8). The coach will lead the girls basketball program, fostering fundamental skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while ensuring that student-athletes enjoy a positive and inclusive experience. The coach will provide structured practices, prepare the team for competition, and serve as a mentor, supporting the educational and personal growth of student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Leadership:

Develop and lead the girls basketball program at HBMS for grades 5-8, emphasizing fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Skill Development & Game Preparation:

Teach essential basketball skills including shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, and team strategy.

Mentorship & Athlete Support:

Serve as a role model for student-athletes, emphasizing academic accountability, resilience, and respect.

Games & Competitions:

Prepare lineups, manage game strategy, and promote sportsmanship during competitions.

Communication & Collaboration:

Maintain open communication with parents, caregivers, staff, and the Athletic Director.

Safety & Compliance:

Follow all district and MIAA guidelines, including concussion training, First Aid/CPR, and

CORI/SORI

background checks.

Qualifications:

Required:

Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and strategies. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to mentor and motivate middle school student-athletes. Must meet all district coaching requirements.

Preferred:

Previous basketball coaching experience at the middle or high school level. Experience working with middle school-aged athletes. Prior playing experience at the high school or collegiate level.
