The North Middlesex School District is seeking a Freshman/JV2 Boys Basketball Coach to guide first-year and developing high school athletes as they transition into the varsity basketball program. This coach will focus on introducing foundational basketball skills, building confidence, and fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The Freshman/JV2 coach plays a critical role in preparing athletes for progression to higher levels, emphasizing personal growth, skill development, and academic responsibility. The coach will work closely with the Head Varsity Coach, JV Coach, and assistant coaches to ensure program consistency and alignment with North Middlesex Athletics' mission.Key Responsibilities:
Player Development & Instruction Plan and implement practices focused on teaching basketball fundamentals: dribbling, passing, shooting, defensive positioning, footwork, and game awareness. Develop individual and team skill levels to prepare athletes for JV and varsity competition. Encourage student-athletes to embrace effort, resilience, and sportsmanship both on and off the court. Identify potential varsity-level players and provide mentorship to foster growth and confidence. Game Preparation & Management Assist in planning lineups, rotations, and game strategies appropriate for freshman/JV2 athletes. Coach players during competitions, emphasizing fundamentals, effort, teamwork, and positive behavior. Conduct post-game evaluations with athletes to encourage learning and continuous improvement. Team Culture & Mentorship Build a supportive, inclusive, and accountable team culture that reflects North Middlesex Athletics' core values. Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating integrity, leadership, and commitment. Encourage academic achievement and personal responsibility, highlighting the connection between school and athletics. Promote leadership and collaboration among players to instill pride in representing North Middlesex. Collaboration & Communication Maintain open communication with the Head Varsity Coach, JV Coach, assistant coaches, and Athletic Director. Coordinate with parents, school staff, and administration to provide updates and guidance on athlete development. Participate in program-wide meetings and planning sessions to ensure alignment across all levels of the boys basketball program. Safety & Compliance Ensure a safe environment during practices, games, and team activities. Adhere to all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS guidelines, including injury prevention, concussion awareness, and emergency protocols. Maintain required certifications: CPR, First Aid, and Concussion in Sports Training.Qualifications:
Required:
Experience coaching basketball at the middle school or high school level, or significant playing experience at the high school or collegiate level. Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, JV-level strategies, and skill development techniques. Ability to mentor and motivate developing athletes while fostering a positive team culture. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Compliance with all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS coaching requirements.Preferred:
Previous Freshman/JV2 or assistant coaching experience. Experience preparing athletes for JV or varsity competition. Knowledge of player development, strength and conditioning, and youth athletic mentorship.Salary:
