The North Middlesex School District is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Varsity Assistant Boys Basketball Coach to support the development and success of the high school boys basketball program. The Assistant Coach will work under the leadership of the Head Varsity Coach and in collaboration with the Athletic Director to promote excellence, teamwork, and growth within the program. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education-based athletics and committed to mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court. The Assistant Coach will help create a positive, inclusive environment that emphasizes skill development, academic success, leadership, and sportsmanship—helping student-athletes reach their full potential as competitors and as individuals.Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Instruction Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting high-quality practices focused on fundamentals, teamwork, conditioning, and competitive readiness. Provide individualized feedback and instruction to student-athletes to enhance skill development and game understanding. Support the implementation of offensive and defensive systems established by the Head Coach. Participate in film sessions, scouting, and game preparation to contribute to strategic decision-making. Player Development & Mentorship Serve as a positive role model who teaches leadership, perseverance, accountability, and respect through sport. Encourage academic excellence and personal responsibility among student-athletes. Support student-athletes' growth beyond basketball by fostering confidence, sportsmanship, and community engagement. Maintain awareness of each athlete's physical and emotional well-being, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. Team Culture & Collaboration Help build a cohesive and inclusive team culture that embodies the values of hard work, integrity, and pride in representing North Middlesex. Model professionalism, enthusiasm, and respect for the game and all participants. Collaborate effectively with the Head Coach, assistant coaches, and support staff to ensure consistency across all levels of the boys basketball program. Participate in program-wide initiatives such as youth clinics, community outreach, and leadership activities that strengthen program identity. Game & Event Responsibilities Support all aspects of game-day preparation, including warm-ups, scouting, bench management, and player rotations as directed by the Head Coach. Maintain professional communication with officials, opponents, and game staff. Provide post-game feedback and support ongoing player development based on performance and effort. Program Administration & Communication Assist in the coordination of logistics such as equipment, uniforms, scheduling, and transportation. Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school staff to promote transparency and trust. Uphold all MIAA, NFHS, and district policies regarding eligibility, safety, and sportsmanship. Safety & Compliance Ensure a safe playing environment and compliance with all athletic health and safety guidelines, including concussion management and injury prevention. Maintain all required certifications and adhere to school and league expectations for professional conduct.Qualifications:
Required:
Demonstrated basketball coaching experience at the high school, AAU, or collegiate level. Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, drills, and game strategy. Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes while supporting academic achievement and personal growth. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Current certifications required by the MIAA and NFHS, including: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Concussion in Sports Training First Aid & CPR Certification MIAA Coaching Education ProgramCORI/SORI
background check clearancePreferred:
Previous experience as a varsity assistant or head coach. Background in player development, sports psychology, or strength and conditioning. Experience building youth or feeder basketball programs. Collegiate playing or coaching experience.Salary:
Per North Middlesex Regional School District Coach Stipend Schedule.Position Type:
