Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a positive and energetic Assistant Winter Gameday Cheer Coach to support the winter cheerleading program during the basketball season. The assistant coach will work collaboratively with the head coach to help lead practices, support gameday operations, promote school spirit, and foster a positive student-athlete experience. The ideal candidate will help create an inclusive and supportive team environment while reinforcing teamwork, accountability, leadership, sportsmanship, and athlete safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Team Support:
Assist in planning and conducting winter cheer practices and gameday performances. Help teach and reinforce crowd-leading cheers, chants, sidelines, timeout routines, band dances, and school traditions. Support athletes in skill development, confidence building, and teamwork. Promote a positive and energetic atmosphere during practices and events.
Gameday Responsibilities:
Assist with preparation and execution of cheer activities during home basketball games and school events. Help coordinate signs, props, music, and other gameday materials as needed. Support the head coach in maintaining organization and communication during contests. Encourage crowd engagement and positive school spirit throughout events.
Team Culture & Communication:
Help foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture. Serve as a role model for student-athletes both on and off the sidelines. Reinforce expectations related to attendance, behavior, commitment, and sportsmanship. Maintain professional and positive communication with athletes, families, coaches, and athletic department staff.
Safety & Supervision:
Assist in ensuring athletes follow proper safety standards and skill progressions. Help supervise athletes during practices, games, travel, and school-sponsored events. Support enforcement of all school, league, MIAA, and NFHS cheer safety regulations. Promptly communicate injuries or concerns to the head coach and appropriate personnel.
Program Administration:
Assist with attendance tracking, uniform organization, and team logistics. Participate in required trainings, meetings, and department expectations. Support the overall mission and goals of North Middlesex Athletics.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Previous cheerleading and/or coaching experience preferred. Knowledge of sideline cheer techniques and cheer safety standards. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Ability to positively mentor and motivate student-athletes. Must meet all district, NFHS, and MIAA coaching requirements, including: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching NFHS Concussion in Sports First Aid & CPR Certification MIAA Coaching Education Program

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience coaching or participating in high school or youth cheerleading. Experience promoting school spirit and positive team culture. Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching staff. Commitment to education-based athletics and student-athlete development.
