Job Description

Job Description Summary The Men's Volleyball Coach is responsible for the recruitment, selection and managing all aspects of the team in conjunction with the team captains and organization's executive board. The coach is required to schedule and be present during all practices and matches, ensuring all safety standards and guidelines as defined by the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Governance Rules. In addition, the Coach should help the Club Men's Volleyball Team on campus, while encouraging the members to publicize the team in new and creative ways in order to expand membership. Essential Duties Make appropriate decisions regarding the safety and playing ability of team members. Schedule all practices and matches in accordance with the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation and NECVL Governance Rules. Attend and coordinate all practices and matches, practices are Monday/Wednesday night with tournaments on the weekend Conduct practices in a professional and organized manner. Create, instruct, and implement in-game strategies. Represent Bentley University in a manner that is consistent with the mission of the University. Ensure all team members are in good academic standing, have completed and filed the appropriate paperwork with Bentley Athletics (Anti-hazing forms, travel forms, Liability waivers, etc.). Be available to team members to counsel on matters relating to Men's Volleyball and team morale. Meet as needed with the Bentley Athletic Department Staff. Communicate regularly with membership and team leadership to ensure success of the team. Support the recruitment and publicity efforts of the team. Other Duties Manages the student participants by reinforcing commitment to academic standards while participating in an extracurricular team. Ensure the balance between needs of the team and time away from campus for practices and competitions. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma, Bachelor's Degree Preferred. Minimum 2-3 years of experience in coaching/instructing men's volleyball at a level comparable with a university club sport program. Previous experience working with a higher education undergraduate population or adolescent/young adult individuals, as in a school, camp, or related setting. Experience coaching men's volleyball and supporting the skill development of individuals and teams. Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley's insurance carrier. First Aid certification and CPR training is required. Work Environment The Men's Volleyball Team Head Coach should be present at all practices and matches of Club Men's Volleyball, which can occur on nights and weekends. Work approximately 10 hours per week (more time allocated for travel to and from away games/competitions as needed) between the months of September and May. Travel for practices and competitions is required. This may include weekend matches and travel to out-of-town competitions. Should the Club Men's Volleyball Team go to Nationals, this will also be a requirement of attendance of the coach (this usually occurs in the spring usually in month of April during Easter weekend). The Coach works collaboratively with the Assistant Coach and e-board members. Must work within the space and scheduling limitations of the Bentley campus/athletics and be flexible if changes to the schedule occur. Physical Demands The coach must be able to effectively demonstrate and instruct techniques and skill to team members. Should be in good physical condition with ability to perform as a coach. Position requires a high level of physical ability, including how to advise students appropriately about volleyball skills, while maintaining safety standards. This position has a fixed hourly rate of $19.00, paid for hours worked during the designated seasonal schedule.
