Annually Job Description:
The Head Tennis Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of Coppin State University's Division I men's and women's tennis programs. This includes coaching, recruiting, budget management, fundraising, community engagement, and academic support.
Responsibilities:
Recruitment of student-athletes. Manage team operations including practice planning, match scheduling, travel logistics and budget management. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches. Scout opponents and develop competitive strategies. Monitor academic progress, retention, and eligibility of student-athletes. Foster a culture of good sportsmanship and personal accountability. Develop and communicate clear expectations to student-athletes regarding performance, behavior, and academic standards. Collaborate with support staff in facilities, transportation, and game operations. Assist with departmental alumni engagement and community outreach efforts. Maintain compliance with NCAA, MEAC, and institutional rules and policies. Participate actively in athletic department meetings, initiatives, and campus-wide events. Plan and execute program fundraising efforts. Be aware and maintain a safe and healthy environment for the student-athlete. Support the mission and values of Coppin State University and the athletics department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Successful coaching experience. Valid state driver's license. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Knowledge of NCAA rules and guidelines regarding Division I tennis recruiting and coaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior Division I coaching experience. Proven leadership skills to create a championship culture. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
