Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION
Responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the swim team. Position assists with conducting practices, motivating swimmers, and instructing swimmers in meet strategies and techniques. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes swimmer safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum age of 18.
Certifications:
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, Basic Life Support.
  • Certification Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent certification.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA and American Red Cross standards.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of competitive swimming.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Redwood Certifications
  • Certification Child Protection Training including Mandated Reporter
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by supervisor.
  • Coach swimmers to improve skills, monitor swimmers during competition and practices, keep the head coach informed of swimmer performances.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
  • Model good sportsmanship through conduct towards swimmers, officials, members and volunteers.
  • Maintain the equipment room in an orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
  • Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to swimmers as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Assist the head coach with submitting a list of award recipients at the end of the season.
  • Participate in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and swim meets.
  • Perform support tasks such as maintaining and distributing eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other records.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Assistant Aquatic Director, Aquatic Director or other appropriate administrator.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Maintain certifications requirements for Swim Coaches.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and on deck areas.
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see clearly up to 50 feet.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Pay:
$15.00 per hour
