Job Description

McLean School ( mcleanschool.org ), a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks applicants for the Head Coach for Grades 9-12 Cross Country position to begin August 2026. McLean School has, for more than 70 years, helped bright students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college-preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. Through our Abilities Model®, we embrace both traditional learners and those with mild to moderate learning challenges. We recognize and teach individual strengths, responding to areas of challenge, but never defining students by them. The Head Coach for Grades 9-12 Cross Country is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and directing the Cross Country Program. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics, Coaching, and Mentoring. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will have experience as a Head Coach for Cross Country at the college or club-level, effective written and oral communication skills, a connection to the youth and local cross country community, an ability to build relationships and work well with others, and a sharp perspective on the role of athletics in the educational experience. Essential Duties Offer positive leadership by coaching the Varsity Program Serve as an ambassador for the School and the program by connecting and following up with interested scholar-athletes and families Conduct out-of-season programs within league rules, such as strength and conditioning, summer leagues, and pre- and post-season workouts Connect with K-8 students and their families to promote participation and engagement in the program.
