Camp Administration Dates:
June 18, 2026-August 13, 2026 Position Overview Bunk Counselors and Activity Instructors are the heart of Camp Cedar. In this dual role, you will serve as both a primary caretaker for campers in your assigned cabin and as an instructor/coach in your area of specialty. Counselors are responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where campers can grow socially, emotionally, and physically. Bunk Counselor Responsibilities As a bunk counselor, you will live in a cabin with campers and act as one of their primary caretakers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Camper Care & Safety Ensure the physical safety, social well-being, and emotional security of all campers in your cabin. Serve as a positive role model, mentor, and trusted adult. Daily Cabin Life Live in one large cabin room with campers and maintain a caring, structured environment. Ensure campers arrive at all meals in a timely manner. Support and supervise bunk inspection to maintain cleanliness and order. On-Duty Responsibilities Remain awake, alert, and available during rest period when assigned. Collect camper mail directly after lunch and distribute it during rest period. Attend evening group meetings if on-duty, actively participating and contributing to the cabin community. Supervise and ensure attendance of all campers at evening activities, engaging fully alongside them. Ensure all campers are accounted for at night. Get to know each camper, including but not limited to: their name, likes/dislikes, strengths, areas for improvement, their friends, etc. Never use your cell phone around campers, and never allow campers to use your phone. Activity Instructor Responsibilities As an activity instructor, you are expected to lead, teach, and inspire campers in your area of specialty.
Responsibilities include:
Instruction & Leadership Teach and/or coach your assigned specialty activity in a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate way. Arrive on time for all activities and be prepared to lead with enthusiasm and professionalism. Wear appropriate footwear and clothing for your specific activity area. Preparation & Communication Read the daily schedule in its entirety to confirm assignments and responsibilities. Adapt lessons or coaching based on camper age, ability, and group needs. Camper Supervision Act in loco parentis —as a responsible, caring adult standing in place of a parent. Report any concerns or issues regarding camper health, safety, or behavior to your Head Counselor or an administrator promptly and appropriately. Qualifications Genuine interest in working with children and fostering their growth. Ability to live and work in a close, communal environment. Physical ability to teach, coach, and supervise activity sessions. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to Camp Cedar's values of safety, inclusivity, and community. Working Conditions Live in-camp, residing in a shared cabin with campers. Active outdoor work environment, including variable weather conditions. Long hours with designated off-duty time.
