The ideal candidate will be passionate about the sport of wrestling, committed to the development of student-athletes, and able to foster a positive and competitive team environment. This seasonal position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of wrestling techniques, and the ability to motivate and inspire high school athletes. Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that enhances the skills and physical conditioning of wrestlers. Plan and conduct daily practices, ensuring a focus on technique, strategy, and team cohesion. Organize and oversee all aspects of the varsity wrestling program, including scheduling competitions and transportation for events. Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes and promote a balance between athletics and academics. Foster a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among athletes, coaching staff, and opponents. Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team policies, schedules, and performance expectations. Evaluate and provide feedback on individual and team performance, making adjustments to training as necessary. Collaborate with other coaches and staff to support the overall athletic program at Okemos High School. Ensure compliance with all school, district, and state athletic regulations and policies. Requirements Previous coaching experience in wrestling, preferably at the high school level or higher. Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, strategies, and rules of the sport. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with athletes, parents, and staff. Ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes to achieve their personal and team goals. First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the season). Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. A commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes. A valid driver's license and the ability to transport athletes to competitions as needed.
