ATHLETICS - MS 8th
GRADE VOLLEYBALL COACH
Job Goal:
To help each participating student athlete achieve the level of skill, strategy, physical training, and sportsmanship necessary to realize individual and team success. At the same time, the student athlete should receive instruction that supports the development of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
Minimum Qualifications:
Recognized ability to be a positive role model and motivator Successful coaching experience (minimum 2 years) and/or related experience Proven ability to organize, supervise, and build a total sports program Demonstrated knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport Established skill in the fundamental and technical aspects of the sport CPR and First Aid Certification Must abide by the South Lake Schools Coaches Handbook and overall District athletic philosophy Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities & Duties Include:
Develop a sense of community that accepts and celebrates the diversity of all participating student athletes Understand and follow all rules and guidelines established by the MHSAA and South Lake Schools Uphold the Athletes Code of Conduct and conduct oneself in accordance with the MHSAA Athletic Code for Coaches Model exemplary behavior and sportsmanship at all times Enforce self-control and sportsmanlike behavior for student athletes and coaches Ensure the safety and well-being of student athletes at all times Ensure no student athlete is left unsupervised during or after practices or contests Confirm with Human Resources that all coaches, assistants, aides, guests, and volunteers have proper clearance before working with students Follow all directives from District administrators Maintain positive working relationships with teaching staff to support students with academic or emotional needs Teach and coach the techniques and skills necessary for a successful program Organize and direct the overall sports program Attend required clinics and meetings to stay current with MHSAA and league rules Adhere to all District and league rules pertaining to the sport Organize, schedule, and supervise tryouts (as needed), practices, scouting, and/or summer camps Establish a sound injury-prevention program and follow appropriate reporting procedures Validate student eligibility with the athletic director Monitor student athlete grades and academic eligibility Provide the principal and athletic director with written team rules before the season begins and after any revisions Distribute and review team rules with student athletes Instill respect for equipment and school property Inventory, distribute, collect, and maintain athletic equipment Prepare equipment for reconditioning at season's end Evaluate officials and submit reports as required by the MHSAA Arrange team transportation through the athletic department Accompany and supervise athletes at all home and away contests Secure District facilities after practices or contests Report game results to the media, school, and athletic director Maintain positive public relations with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, community members, students, and fans Support student athlete success and participation in all District sports programs Employee shall properly implement Board Policy 3122, Policy 4122, and Policy 2260 on non-discrimination and shall comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, particularly Part 1 104 of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (34 CFR) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
