Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing Instructor with Soft Skills Integration Team Up Academy Warren, MI Job Details Part-time $30 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Teamwork Vocational instructor experience Student mentoring High school diploma or GED Manufacturing facility 3D printing Additive manufacturing implementation Manufacturing 3D modeling Manufacturing company experience Classroom management interventions Full Job Description Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and passionate Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing Instructor to deliver high-quality technical training in additive manufacturing technologies while integrating essential soft skills development. This role is critical in preparing students for entry-level to mid-level roles in advanced manufacturing, prototyping, and related industries. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with the ability to mentor adult learners from diverse backgrounds, emphasizing both hard technical skills and workplace readiness (communication, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, etc.).
Key Responsibilities Technical Instruction:
Design, develop, and deliver curriculum and hands-on training in additive manufacturing/3D printing, including: 3D modeling and design software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD) Operation and maintenance of various 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS, etc.) Materials science and selection for additive processes Post-processing techniques, quality control, and troubleshooting Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles Safety protocols and industry best practices
Soft Skills Integration:
Incorporate and explicitly teach workplace soft skills throughout technical courses, such as: Team collaboration and communication Problem-solving and critical thinking Professionalism, resume building, and interview preparation Time management and adaptability Conflict resolution and leadership basics Deliver engaging classroom lectures, lab demonstrations, and project-based learning. Assess student progress through practical evaluations, quizzes, and capstone projects. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized training environment. Collaborate with the education team on curriculum updates, student support, and employer partnerships. Assist with job placement efforts by preparing students for real-world manufacturing roles. Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and certifications in additive manufacturing. Participate in outreach events and community engagement activities.
Qualifications and Requirements Technical Expertise:
Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in additive manufacturing, 3D printing, or related advanced manufacturing fields.
Teaching Experience:
Previous instruction or training experience preferred (especially with adult learners, veterans, or diverse populations). Strong classroom management and mentoring skills required.
Education:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., SME Additive Manufacturing Fundamentals, Stratasys, or similar) highly valued.
Soft Skills:
Demonstrated ability to teach interpersonal and professional skills in a practical, applied manner. Excellent communication, patience, and motivational skills. Commitment to Team Up Academy's mission of serving veterans and underserved communities. Ability to pass a background check. Preferred Skills and Experience Familiarity with Michigan's manufacturing ecosystem and local employer needs. Experience working with CNC, machining, or other complementary manufacturing technologies. Bilingual abilities a plus.
