Status :
Part-time, approximately 14-20 hours per week depending on site placement and availability
Pay Rate :
$19-$25 per hour; licensed educators qualify for $23-$28 per hour

Dates and times will vary depending on site placement Position Description Academic Coaches are ACES's most powerful agents of change, engaging directly with students to advance education equity and prepare young learners for success in school, career, and community. Academic Coaches use ACES's unique, hands-on curriculum to cultivate math skill and social-emotional development for a classroom of 10-15 middle school age students. Academic Coaches also provide one-on-one mentorship and academic support, building strong relationships with students and their families. This role will report to a Program Coordinator who will support their growth, development, and impact with students. Academic Coaches are part of a cohort. The cohort model fosters a collaborative and supportive environment for Academic Coaches to engage in professional development opportunities, share knowledge, build community, and enhance their skills. With their cohort group, Academic Coaches will attend and participate in initial trainings, monthly full-cohort professional development provided by internal and external trainers, and team-building events together with their peers. Responsibilities Teaching and Classroom Management Plan and lead engaging math and social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons using ACES hands-on curriculum Provide one-on-one and small group academic support for 4th-8th grade students Seek out and actively develop positive relationships with each student in the ACES classroom Independently manage the ACES classroom of 10-15 students by establishing and maintaining behavior expectations and routines and cultivating a positive classroom environment Lesson Planning and Evaluation Develop lesson adaptations and engagement strategies to meet student's individual strengths and needs Complete administrative tasks, including tracking attendance and student progress and provide input for student and family engagement, and curriculum development Record data and provide input for student and family engagement, and curriculum development Contribute to ACES's growth by giving feedback and participating in ACES's evaluation methods Training and Other Events Attend monthly staff trainings and participate meaningfully Participate in team-building events and other occasional ACES events Chaperone and support engagement and positive behavior on occasional field-trips Other Work collaboratively with Program Coordinator and Academic Coaches Participate in check-ins with Program Coordinator Adhere to program schedule, policies, and structure Possibly sub at other ACES sites if needed and available Embody ACES's values: youth-centeredness, equity, belonging, collaboration, and growth Complete various tasks and manage miscellaneous projects as needed Hours Morning (
AM:
Monday-Friday 7am-9:30am) and/or Afternoon (
PM:
Monday-Thursday 2pm-5:30pm) (
Note:
afternoon hours vary by placement site) 2 hours of lesson planning a week 3 hour training once a month

Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old Ability to relate to and develop positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues Embodiment of ACES values: youth-centeredness, equity, belonging, collaboration, and growth Commitment to ACES's mission to empower youth and expand opportunity through engaging inclusive and accessible learning experiences Ability to work regular program hours and occasional extended hours, including evenings and weekends Desired Skills & Experience Bilingual in English and Spanish, Somali, or Hmong Experience working with youth Experience in teaching, lesson planning, or tutoring, especially in math Experience working in underserved and historically marginalized communities Current Minnesota teaching license or desire to pursue one About
