Summary:
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Head Coach in carrying out his/her duties. Responsible for knowing, understanding and implementing MSHSAA rules and regulations and attending the mandatory rules clinic and coaches meetings. Must be certified in CPR/First Aid/AED. Supervise and conduct practices and contests in a safe manner. Maintain a professional appearance. Assist in managing uniforms, equipment and facilities in a responsible manner. Work toward building and teaching good sportsmanship, cooperative work ethic and responsibility. Work toward developing good public relations with the parents, school, booster club and community. Communicate with the head coach, Athletic Director, administrators, assistant coaches, players and parents. Direct injured athletes to the trainer and report injuries to the nurse. Teach relevant skills, tactics and techniques. Monitor and enhance performance by providing encouragement and constructive feedback. Assess strengths and weaknesses in a participant's performance and identifying areas for further development. Adapt to the needs and interests of the group or individual participant. Communicate instructions and commands using clear, simple language. Demonstrate an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence. Encourage participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge, and techniques. Ensure participants train and perform to a high standard of health and safety at all times. Inspire confidence. Develop knowledge and understanding of fitness, injury, sports psychology, nutrition, and sports science. Assist in developing training programs. Assist in sports promotion/development. Work to a high legal and ethical standard at all times, particularly in relation to issues such as child safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
